Explore New MediumsStudio 3D: Ceramics 1
Learn how to create free-standing, hand-made pieces using clay techniques, including coil building, slab rolling, form molding and carving. We will also learn to use a potter’s wheel and experiment with firing and glazing/painting. Digital: Graphic Design/ Photo 1 Make your own cameras as well as using new cameras. We will be learning the technical skill to use professional style cameras, giving you the ability to use nearly every camera better. We will also be using industry standard professional programs and you will be getting a sampling of what it would be like to be at photo or design school. Studio 2D: Intro to Drawing Learn to use a variety of media in many ways and will be learning to truly observe and develop your technical drawing skills. Studio 2D: Art 2 Use a variety of painting, drawing, and collage materials to create a portfolio of meaningful artworks with expressive content and quality craftsmanship. Digital: Stop Motion Animation Make your own animations using a variety of techniques and materials. We will be using industry standard professional programs and you will be getting a sampling of what it would be like to be at a small animation studio. |

Take Your Art To The Next Level.Studio 3D: Ceramics 2 Expand on techniques from Ceramics 1 to create a number of ceramic pieces. Make advanced pieces on the potter’s wheel, experimenting with glazes and firing, and making larger scale ceramics. Final projects will be a large vessel and will be one of many pieces considered for exhibition in the year end show. Digital: Graphic Design/ Photo 2 Learn how to design personal logos, manipulate type, edit digital photography, and learn how long camera exposure can allow you to “paint” with light. Learn to use digital software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and Lightroom to make creative, interesting, and communicate message driven work. Studio 2D: Art 2 Use a variety of painting, drawing, and collage materials to create a portfolio of meaningful artworks with expressive content and quality craftsmanship. Art Portfolio Create a portfolio of work that concentrates on a single theme of your choosing. We will be exploring different art materials and find inspiration from other artist’s work while developing a cohesive body of work. This class will help prepare you for college portfolio submissions and AP art portfolio! Darkroom Photography 1 & 2 Take photography using film and process with chemisty. Gain experience and access into the darkroom to print and capture your own black and white film photography. Art and Urban Sustainability Students taking this course will have the opportunity to continue to help design and plant in our garden space and help to develop additional sustainable practices in our school and community. |
Music Fundamentals, Theory, and Expression.Guitar I & 2 (10th, 11th, 12th)
Learn and expand on the fundamentals of guitar, in order to play and perform different songs. We will learn to play basic chords, rhythms, and strumming patterns so you can learn to cover songs of your choice. Instrumental Music I (10th) Learn basic music reading skills,in order to jumpstart the music making process. Pick a traditional band instrument and learn the basics to build a strong instrumental foundation. Look at different genres and styles of music to develop an appreciation for music of all kinds. Instrumental Music 2 (11th, 12th) Continue to learn instrumental study and begin to learn more advanced rhythms and notes. We will continue to look at and discuss different genres and styles of music, as well as discussing how historical events have shaped music making. Digital Composition (10th, 11th, 12th) In Digital Composition, students will learn to create music using various digital platforms including Google Song Maker, Audacity, and GarageBand. Students will learn basic music theory and how they influence the creation of music. Let's Get Loud: Songs of Justice (10th, 11th, 12th) Students in this course will look at events and movements through a musical lens. We will examine how music has influenced society, as well as how society has influenced music. We will look at periods in history such as slavery, the Civil Rights Movement, protest songs, and the current Black Lives Matter Movement and the music tied to this. |
